Team Backpack appears to be a movement that is already happening and just in case you have not heard of them either, please allow us to introduce. For those of you who are thinking to yourselves, “Who Is Team Backpack?”. This is hip hop at it’s most purest form. The culture is not just for entertainment, it’s literally a form of expression. Communication is important and that is why it has always been encouraged to be unique. Have something to say that I can’t find anywhere else.
Because of how mainstream hip hop has become, it’s not always easy to find pure hip hop, but to be real it’s been that way for quite some time.
Enter Team Backpack, and allow this to serve as an example of what’s possible within the realms of hip hop. Rather than simply focus on trying to promote themselves as individuals, these artists have linked up together. MC’s and DJ’s, just like in the Old days, with a few Cyphers for your viewing pleasure. ( So much upcoming heat, and under the radar – real hip hop lives on!)
“Trying to keep it real in a world of truth is perception.” – Marlon Craft, on Team Backpack
Team Backpack also has an ongoing feature called Mic Check, which has this gem.
Some excellent points are made in this one. In so many ways, this is what we are seeking to point out with our ratings system. For the reviews that you’ll find on our site, not all categories of hip hop are the same. When we start getting into what’s promoted as hip hop today, that becomes even more true. When we wrote Something Fishy Going On here, we gave it several toilet rolls. While that was an early review, and there will be much more added to it at a later date, the rating isn’t a joke. It’s safe to say you won’t find Ice J.J. Fish in a Team Backpack cypher anytime soon!
Just as B-doe from Mic Check points out, being an MC means something. It’s not just about rhyming words together. What story are you telling and how are you using the ‘weapon’ or ‘instrument’ that music truly is. We just shared some in depth conversation from Dr. Boyce Watkins, Dr. Nelson Harrison and Dr. Monikah Oganda (Hip Hop Hypnotizes Children). The power of the music itself is why white owned corporations couldn’t wait to invest in it. They’ve been using it as a tool for their own selfish purposes.
A music company owner, doesn’t just own music companies.
For all the people who like to argue that hip hop is dead, Team Backpack deserves some recognition for the role they have been playing. It doesn’t hurt to be reminded that, as the actual audience, we determine what’s hot and what’s not. Keeping things ‘in perspective’ is important in a world full of increasing fake news, and alternative facts.
“Hip Hop is like a knife. It can be used to cut fruit, to feed a family and make that family happy. That same knife can also be used, to devastate a family. How are you going to use hip hop?” – B-Doe, Mic Check (Team Backpack)
Stay tuned, as we’re going to be bringing you much more from Team Backpack, here at AuthorityHop.com. Hip Hop is not dead, you’ve just been listening to the wrong sources ….
