"The Story Of O.J. " by Jay-Z
AH Video Review Rated:
“Please don’t die over the neighborhood, That your mama rentin’
Take your drug money and buy the neighborhood, That’s how you rinse it”
– Jay-Z, Story of OJ
This is that intelligent rap that 50 cent says black people aren’t trying to hear. On an album that included advice, to brothas everwhere about tricking those dollas off in the strip club, Jay addressed a real issue within the black community. We continue to be divided, and often allow outsiders to make us think we’re not black. For as many people who loved this album, and especially this song, you’re going to also see your 50 cent’s too. The community is divided like that.
50 must have felt some typa way as Jay Z is pushing intelligent business moves, while he’s still sticking to the old script of Using blacks as propaganda to present us in negative lights, such as criminals, pimps or drug deals. That’s basically the storyline for his Showtime series Power. I’m not hating on it, it’s a free country. Anyone, can write a story about anything. Power is mad popular though, so maybe 50 cent is onto something?
Then again, maybe he’s just hating.
Maybe he’s really upset about this Story of Oj that Jay dropped.
Perhaps, 50 cent being around all that money and all those white people may have found himself one night, talkin that, I”m Not Black I’m Curtis shit …. a song like this cuts deep. 5 power fists up for Jay on this song, and especially this video. Again, tapping into the rich history of Propaganda this nation has, of showing blacks in a negative light. Throughout this video, those images are used to remind us, of a lesson so many forget.
No matter how much education you have, or how successful you become. You will always be, “Still a Nigga” in most white people’s eyes.
They aren’t a culture that is examining themselves, and working to rid itself of those hate filled ideas. Many are hoping it’ll just, work itself out. Despite all the evidence that it isn’t working itself out, here we are, centuries later, dealing with similar issues as our ancestors.
Don’t fuck with me house nigga, I’m a field nigga … We won’t knock the Hustle …
Jay still dropping classics ….
