GNX Cover Art Complex Breakdown

GNX, limited model, from 1987 -

Saw this Complex breakdown of the new, Kendrick Lamar album, GNX. On that album cover, Kendrick poses with a Black Grand National, a car that debuted in the same year he was born, 1987. In this breakdown, something we see a lot of when Kendrick has released almost anything, especially in 2024, lots of ‘easter eggs’ are found. Or, is it even that deep?

Yes .. sometimes it is that deep ….

What I like about Kendrick, is he’s cut from the cloth of real MCs, who put thought into what they write, and put thought into song titles.  MCs who read, who continue to learn and expand, so they can communicate to audiences that tune in ….

Several breakdowns of Kendricks video for Squabble Up, talk about his obvious ode to The Roots. Doing this entire video, in a ‘room’ that’s real similar to the one The Roots used for, The Next Movement. Black Thought, is one of those classic hip hop MCs. The Roots, have always collaborated to create great music and visuals to go with them. But we’ll talk more about them at another time. The fact that Kendrick pays homage to these East Coast legends, while FULLY repping the West Coast, is a beautiful thing to see, as well.

It’s a Visual that speaks, Unity, especially within the culture.

Lots of the samples of this GNX album, are also from songs that dropped in the 80s; this was a great decade …

They did Good job in this GNX Complex Breakdown.

Especially some of the deep cuts, on Ill Drake. I don’t know if it was really that deep though?! This ultra rare model of this car only being made in black, probably has nothing to do with Kendrick’s ‘pro black’ themes in his music. I think a lot of that stems from simply being black, in America.  It’s one of the main themes of his 2024 rap beef WITH Drake. The pinpoint statement that the Canadian, is not from OUR Black American culture.

Honestly feel Drake should have left him alone.

Let us know if you agree with the video from Complex, that like a lot of other’s also mention ‘hints’ at a Second Album.  Do YOU think he has another one dropping before the year is out?

Or do you Think, ‘if he does have a part two’, it’ll drop closer to the Superbowl?  Have you ever noticed his black GNX in his previous work before?

Let us and others know, below – Thanks for dropping through –
