Pulling Over Innocent People And Robbing Them

Cops pulling over innocent people is authority

When you read that caption, pulling over innocent people and robbing them, be honest. That sounds like another one of those ongoing ‘tales from the hood’ that we’ve heard for years. So it isn’t even a surprise to most of us who follow this kind of information, experience this life, that these things are happening.

Cops, pulling over innocent people and robbing them, is exactly why ideas like ‘stop and frisk’ are bad ideas. People misuse their power all the time and shows like, The Wire documented Baltimore specifically. Cops have been abusing the people all the way back to their inception.

Check out this commentary from The Young Turks about the police in Baltimore and other areas in the country.

Oversight is needed.  As TYT points out, relying on the police to police themselves is a fantasy. It’s not realistic to expect people who have set up a system that they are all benefiting from, to rock that boat. The moment they began admitting there are chinks in their armor (or badge), is the same moment they feel, they no longer have power.

It’s all about authority!

Power matters. Because things like this occur all over the country, people aren’t always fans. There are a lot of people who refuse to understand this is reality. Stories like these help to expose that the Wire isn’t ‘just a television show’. Songs by rap artists like Vince Staples, and NWA, are ongoing commentary on benign neglect.  This is why, fuck the police and running from the police resonate. Unfortunately, too many can relate.

Facts still matter even if people want to tune them out. If you think that these are the only cops pulling over innocent people and robbing them, your head is in the sand. Those who want to understand these matters can. MC’s like Common and Killer Mike from Run The Jewels have been tackling these topics. The only question is whether or not you have been listening.
